Knowing the Difference Between Needing Rest Verse Laziness
As I was thinking about what I would post for today the thought came to mind not to post anything at all. My thoughts led me to think that it would be okay to wait another day knowing that I didn’t have time tomorrow or any other time this week. I masked not wanting to start the writing journey again with the phrase; I needed another day of rest. That’s when I heard Holy Spirit call out laziness. That immediate call out of laziness got me to thinking. Do I really know the difference between needing rest verse when I’m just being lazy and needing to push through what I need to do.
The definition of laziness is the quality of being unwilling to work or use energy. If I had to pinpoint what causes laziness at certain moments it would be not knowing how to do something or wondering about how people would perceive what we are doing. That type of thinking leads to laziness. It leads to not wanting to do anything at all which eventually leads to becoming lazy. There are times when rest is needed, and you need to say no to the opportunity or no to the event. Those are the times when you have been putting your hands to the plow and working, working, working and a break or period of rest is necessary for you to operate at your best. However, we must be wise and real with ourselves in knowing when we need to rest verse when we are being laziness.
Resting helps us refocus and readjust ourselves. Laziness doesn’t help with anything. Laziness hurts us because it can become harder to get out of the groove, we put ourselves in. The bible speaks of laziness as slothful. Romans 12:11 says Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord. Think about your life and identify any (if any) areas in your life that you have been slothful in. I encourage you to get started. You may not hit the goal that you want to hit right away. You may not get the outcome that you want to get, but you will never see what you want to see if you don’t try. It’s not always about hitting the mark. It’s about taking the necessary steps until you can hit the mark. For us to become the light that we were intended to be we must get rid of laziness. We must push ourselves! We must create an atmosphere where laziness is not accepted.
