Laughing in the Face of Inadequacy

Have you ever felt like you were inadequate for something? Maybe you felt like you were inadequate for the calling and purpose of your life. Or maybe you felt like you were inadequate for something that was given to you. The questions of why me? Can I handle this? Was this supposed to be for someone else? If you have ever felt this way, know that you are not alone. I sometimes feel this way when the weight of my responsibilities seems too much for me to handle. Or when I’m in places and I feel like people are looking at me in a way that says, you don’t belong here. So, what do you do when that feeling of inadequacy tries to tell you that you are not enough? When inadequacy try to tell you that you don’t belong? I’m reminded of Moses in the bible. God called Moses to lead the children of Isreal out of Egypt. Moses response to God was Who am I? In other words, Moses was asking God are you sure you want to use me? That’s the language of inadequacy speaking. Moses considering himself inadequacy for the calling that God had gave him. Moses further described himself as not eloquent and slow of speech. That’s more ways of saying see I’m not inadequate enough. Read Exodus Chapters 3 and 4.

I sometimes have these Moses moments where I don’t feel like I am not capable or adequate to do what God has called me to do. Typically, it’s in times where I am feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities of my life. Trying to manage all of my responsibilities can become overwhelming especially when I feel like I don’t have the time to do the things I need to do, but just like with Moses, I remember that God is with me. God is with you also! Deuteronomy 31:6 says Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” So, when inadequacy tells me that I can’t. I remind myself of scriptures that tells me I can. I remind myself of how Moses felt he wasn’t good enough, but he still accomplishes the very thing that God called him to do because God was always with him and even now, God is always with me and you. He is not only with us, but he has placed people around us that will help us accomplish the goals and dreams that He has placed in our hearts. This is why in an earlier blog I talked about the importance of the right friendships.

I want to encourage you that in those times that you feel like you are not enough, and inadequacy is knocking at your door. Remember that you are not alone! God is with you and if He called you to be in certain places and certain circle then you belong. Don’t let the whispers and looks of others make you feel like the very position God has placed you in is a mistake. Don’t let the responsibilities of your life make you feel like it’s too much to handle and you can’t do it. You are where you are because God wants you there. You are who you are because God has called. Laugh in the face of inadequacy because you were made for this! Let your light shine bright wherever God has positioned you. You are the example that someone is looking to. Laugh and shine on!
